The gorgeous purple of Amethyst conveys a feeling of peace and tranquillity revered for centuries for its spiritual and healing properties. Its beautiful purple colour conveys a sense of peace and tranquillity.
One of the most significant benefits of Amethyst is its ability to promote spiritual awakening and clarity. By helping you to access and understand your own inner wisdom, as well as enhance your intuition and psychic abilities. By wearing or using Amethyst, you can connect with the spiritual realm and access higher states of consciousness.
But Amethyst is more than just a spiritual stone. It’s also known for its ability to ease stress, anxiety, and insomnia, and to encourage inspiration and creativity. Whether you’re looking for a way to calm your mind and body or to tap into your creative side, Amethyst can be a powerful ally.
Interestingly we find myths in the ancient world weaving Amethyst into stories about wine and sobriety, perhaps because of its similarity in colour to the purple grapes used to make wine.
The word amethyst comes from the ancient Greek word ‘Amethystos’, ‘A’ not and ‘methystos’ intoxicated, not intoxicated. The Ancient Greeks used this in every way imaginable to escape the effects of intoxication, drinking from goblets carved out of Amethyst, wearing it, or even keeping a piece of Amethyst under their tongue when drinking wine. All in an attempt to stay sober and serious. We are not sure how successful they were and advise not to try this at home!
The legend of Bacchus and Amethyst is said to be a Greek myth that explains the origin of the purple gemstone. According to the myth, Bacchus, the god of wine and excess, was once feeling insulted and seeking revenge on those who had rejected his invitation to join in his revelries. In his anger, he declared that the next person he encountered would be devoured by his tigers.
At that moment, a beautiful young woman named Amethyste was on her way to pay tribute to the goddess Artemis. When Bacchus saw her, he ordered his tigers to attack, but Artemis intervened and transformed Amethyste into a clear crystal statue to protect her. When Bacchus realised what he had almost done, he was filled with regret and poured wine over the statue as an offering to the goddess. The wine turned the crystal a deep purple colour, and Bacchus declared that the stone would forever be a symbol of his apology and would bring peace and stability to those who wore it.
Amethyst geodes are also a popular and fascinating way to appreciate this gemstone’s beauty. From small to large, Amethyst geodes can contain thousands of glittering amethyst crystals, and the largest recorded amethyst geode, the “Empress of Uruguay,” measures approximately 7 meters in diameter.
Green amethyst, also known as prasiolite, is a beautiful pale green quartz that’s often used in jewellery and spiritual practices. It’s become increasingly popular in recent years, thanks in part to its association with the heart chakra.
The heart chakra is one of the seven chakras in the body, and it’s located right in the centre of your chest. It’s responsible for feelings of love, empathy, and compassion. When your heart chakra is balanced and open, you’re able to give and receive love freely, and you’re better able to form healthy relationships with others.
With its healing effect on the heart chakra, Green Amethyst can promote emotional healing, balance, and harmony, helping to release negative emotions and promoting feelings of love, peace, and acceptance instead.
Meditate with a Green Amethyst placed on your heart Chakra, take a deep breath, connect, and release, and feel the peace, love, and energy of nature and green growing things.
